Since the uncircumcised penis has all its parts, there is no need to add lube or do something special to masturbate. Of course, this argument has long been lost, so now other justifications are being sought to rationalize the continuation of this tradition.

This is what a resting, natural penis looks like :

As you can see, the foreskin covers the glans, obviously protecting it from unnecessary rubbing and chaffing, but also setting aside extra skin for the erection state. (Note, by the way, that the foreskin’s tip is tighter : this is because the tip of the foreskin contains an elastic ring called the preputial ring. This preputial ring is more important that it may seem.)

Hence, this is what an erect, uncircumcised penis looks like :

You can see that the shaft’s skin of the uncircumcised penis isn’t tightly stretched (as the erect shaft’s skin of a cut dick will usually be : see a comparison at the end of this post). It still can move and slide up and down the shaft and over the glans.

So what does this mean ? It means that the skin can slide freely on the hardened shaft and the swollen glans at all times. It also means that the skin can always move over the erect penis, even though the skin itself may not slip inside the hand wrapped around it (or the vagina or anus it is in…). As a result, lubrication becomes much less important for uncircumcised men when masturbating… (this being said, of course, lube will always be enjoyable !)

Let’s look at the foreskin role in sexual stimulation. Aside from giving leeway so that the shaft’s skin may slide over the penis’s body as we mentioned earlier, the foreskin also plays a fundamental role in the rousing of the glans itself. Let’s look at a drawing to illustrate what happens :

This is the natural state of the foreskin when a penis is fully erect. When the hand initially wraps around the shaft, if the foreskin hasn’t yet rolled back like this, it does very soon.
The glans has a loosely conical shape, tapering from a wide base to a somewhat smaller tip. When the glans is fully erect, the glans’ base is also wider than the shaft immediately below it.

This wide base is important : it causes the preputial ring to snap behind this wide base and stay like this, fully exposing the glans to initial stimulation when complete erection is reached.

As the masturbating man’s fist moves forward, the initial reaction of the foreskin will be to resist (because of the preputial ring). As his fist moves further towards the cock’s tip, the preputial ring’s resistance creates a pressure in the sulcus and the back of the cock’s head. This pressure, though subtle, generates the first sensation of wellbeing brought by the foreskin : Feeling H1 (H for Head).

As the fist continues moving upwards, the pressure on the preputial rings becomes too great as the rest of the cock’s skin is moved up by the fist. At this point, the preputial ring’s resistance is overcome and it suddenly pops and slides over the corona. This coronal lick is the second stimulating sensation brought by the foreskin, we’ll call it Feeling H2.

But the upward movement of the fist still isn’t complete : as it continues moving up, the foreskin ends up covering the whole glans, completing the glans’ licking by the preputial ring and the inner foreskin (the stimulating Feeling H3). A moment later, the man’s fist “collides” with the glans’ corona (now protected by the skin), offering yet another stimulation feel for the cock’s head (this Feeling H4 is shared with lubed circumcised guys, although there’s a slight difference. In Feeling H4n, the corona is massaged through skin where as is Feeling H4c, the corona is massaged directly by the fist’s skin).

The upward movement has reached the end, so now the man’s fist is moving back, downwards. The man’s fist yet again rub on the glans and the corona as it moves down. For some reason, the downward motion doesn’t bring forth the same feeling as the upward move (and most guys I’ve talked to do agree). This is Feeling H5 (H5n : the corona is massaged through skin ; H5c : the corona is massaged directly by the fist’s skin) is followed by Feeling H6 as the foreskin begins to retreat, licking the glans again on its way back.

As the foreskin move backwards, the preputial ring is dilated by the glans’ conical shape, generating the subtle Feeling H7 that ends up with the more powerful Feeling H8 caused by the preputial ring as it suddenly retracts the moment the coronal threshold is exceeded, rubbing the glans’ backside in the process

But the downward stroke isn’t complete yet. When the fist reaches the shaft’s base, the foreskin is stretched backwards, generating a nice tension feeling inside the frenulum. This Feeling H9 remains until the fist begins moving upwards again, soon exposing the glans’ backside to Feeling H1 once again…

As you can see, a lot of sensations are generated by the simple fact that the foreskin is set in motion, and aside from Feeling H4 and H5, none are caused directly by the masturbator’s hand. Which means, of course, that the masturbator’s hand is rubbing another part of the penis as the foreskin is working on the glans : namely, the shaft, meanwhile generating S-class sensations (shared in part with circumcised guys) :

Feeling S1 : the cosy feeling of warmth brought by the hand as it wraps around the shaft.

Feeling S5 : the pressure around the shaft’s base as the fist reaches the bottom.

As discussion of the various feelings was not really necessary here (3), but I felt also that it helped in understanding what the foreskin does as the guy is moving his fist up and down his shaft. But to finish this discussion on the feelings classes :

H-class feelings tend to generate rapidly intense but shallow emotions. H-class feelings will generally make you moan with higher-piched sounds, cause your face to adopt a OMG expression with wide open eyes.

S-class feelings tend to generate slowly-buidling deep-reaching emotions. S-class feelings will generally make you sigh or moan with your deep voice, imprinting on your face an expression of hypnotic relaxation and well-being.

H-class and S-class feelings can make you cum on their own. But orgasms generated by a combination of both H and S-class feelings will generally be considered more satisfying.

In conclusion, the foreskin is never a hassle, even when masturbating. The fact that a man is cut or not does change how he masturbates however, and his partner must adapt also : one doesn’t masturbate a cut dick like an uncut one, and vice versa.
