It's not contradictory . Amilova is not ALWAYS using soft words. Here she's expressing something that's touching her deeply > her perception of the world through the tragedies she lived.
She saw her dad being killed under her eyes at the age of 9, probably she lived other hard things after that (read book 10 for more informations) so "world of shit" is suitable.
But maybe too strong compared to the french "monde pourri" > rotten world.
But rotten world does not sound good, does it ?
