Hello everyone! I want to thank you all again for your replies for the giveaway. They made me very happy to read and some of the favorite scenes were a bit surprising! I’m really honored you all took the time to message me. I know I said there would only be five winners, but I really want to show my appreciation so EVERYONE WHO SUBMITTED A REPLY WINS

That said, I really do only have five postcards. Please send me an email (jisukcho at gmail) with your mailing address and what you would prefer to receive — the holiday postcard, or a 3.5 x 5 inch print from the Karasu Store. The print can be of the holiday picture, or anything you want really.

IF THE GIVEAWAY IS STILL GOING (WHICH I REALLY HOPE IT IS), my favorite character has to be Aki, and shockingly I hadn’t warmed up to her at first because of her rough exterior, but over time and learning about her strength and weaknesses, she ended up being incredibly inspiring- and I absolutely can’t wait til we get to hear from her again, which is hopefully soon considering where she is!! Ahhh, Aki…but yeah haha that’s my submission!

lulucioles:
My favorite character is definitely Shichi. I don’t think Shichi would think so, but he’s a paragon to me. I know that he isn’t perfect and he makes mistakes, but I think that’s what makes him more loveable (and relatable) to me. The fact that he can see general goodness in most people and that he’s simply a good person… it just resonates. I know it’s idealistic but I think a lot of people wish they could be like him. I know I do. And I know it’s cheesy, but he’s a unique kind of hero. Shichi isn’t a person of peak physical strength or multi-talented with magic and self defense (by all means he seems very ordinary compared to his companions) but it takes a very special person, a special strength of heart to be the way that he is. He saves people, genuinely and selflessly. He saved Kana with love, Chiyo with friendship, Aki with hope all without him realizing the dramatic effect he has on the people around him. And he’s adorably awkward to boot, what else can I say?

ridiqlumdrum:
I’d have to say my favorite character is Aki. I always love an anti-hero, brooding type character, and she’s female to boot! Usually these types of characters are male. I think if she shows up again she could balance out Shichi’s naïveté and Chiyo’s general nonchalance well.

imaginetheending:
I love his (Shichi’s) character design! The Tengu have a very simple, but distinct look to them. I feel like non-human characters can be difficult to create, so I can’t help but appreciate them.

clever-fox:
chiyo is my favorite character! i really love her design, ugguuu. but i also adore her sort of bratty personality, it’s really endearing.

traceytravels:
Hello! For the giveaway: my favorite characters from Karasu are Aki (so badass!) and Zaisei (idk). Also, I’ve been following your work for a while and I’m so excited for Fishbones to finally come out in print!! I’m definitely getting one asap!

weia-yo:
My favorite character is actually Fumie, and my favorite scene in all of Karasu would have to be when she’s towering over the bandits and looking completely menacing and polite at the same time. It’s just a scene that really stuck with me.

2arpol:
My favorite character is Chiyo. She’s the biggest jerkbutt and I can only aspire to be so.

Favorite Scene

randomtengureporter:
[[Picking a favorite Karasu moment is hard! I think my favorite will always be when Sagiri discovered how badly Shichi had been injured after Kurohane was burned down. This bit, -“Dying is easy,” Sagiri said, her voice steady. “I taught you better than that.”- really brought her character in sharp clarity for me. Here was Shichi’s mother figure, mad as all hell, and expressing her concern for her student with the sharp kick in the ass he so badly needed. That was my favorite scene.]]

johnnakken:
My favorite part of Karasu is when Shichi finds Urameshiya, and finally has a place, if only for a few months. A glimmer of hope

agent-lildash:
Hello! My favourite scene was Shichi and Aki in the bath, because it was really sweet, when Shichi got embarrassed by Aki, especially that before that they pretty much hated each other

lulucioles:
I have no idea how to choose just one favorite scene.. Maybe I can do top 3??? Also, does the NSFW chapter count? -wiggles brows- … Just kidding. I guess if I absolutely had to pick just one scene, it’d be the scene in chapter 21 Master, where Sagiri and Shichi are having a conversation and Sagiri asks him what he is good at and Shichi says he’s not very good at anything. The scene hit me right in the feels, it’s forever burned in my mind.

It really spoke volumes of the kind of people they both are. Shichi wasn’t a very extraordinary person (besides being determined) before he met Sagiri and Sagiri was frigid and to put it bluntly, broken, before Shichi. She left Shichi out in the rain the entire night before she realized her error and I think the experience humbled her, though she wouldn’t admit it. They both helped each other grow into better people. In a way, Shichi saved her too.

motical:
Hello! I hope I’m doing this right, but my hands down favorite scene in ‘Karasu’ so far is when Shichi came across the dead raven. Even after the attack on the temple and being left by his teacher, that was the moment that truly made my heart sink. I feel like it really drove home to Shichi that there are bad people in the world, but still he kept faith and didn’t hate Zaisei, no matter what. That and it was the first time I cried while reading it! Thank you so much for writing the story ;__;

coonblr:
It’s kind of hard to say what part i enjoyied most. But i think my 2 favorite parts are the destruction of the temple and the final confrontantion with Saizei. The first becouse it marks the begining of sichi’s life trial and his path to adventure in the outside world. The latter becouse his batle was a psychological test. The hunter’s pride of Saizei against the tranquil(?) mind of sichi. I consider the 2nd also as my favorite becouse it remind me the girl in prision scene from “V of vendetta”

cammac48:
It’s been a while since I’ve read your work, but the chapter that has stuck out the most for me was probably 34 (Stone). It shows how much Shichi has developed as a caring and self-sufficient doctor, but shows he still has a long way to go with relationships. 34 provides some emotional closure between Shichi and Kana (which I really appreciate), and Rie is adorable! This chapter gives a lot to Book 1. The artwork is also excellent!

gorondass:
My favorite scene (not because I like pain D: ) has to be when Shichi is talking to Shusei one last time in the temple after it had burned. Shusei makes his final apologies for having teased Shichi. He knows that Shichi feels guilty beyond belief yet he twists it by making sure that Shichi knows he thinks he is a good person deep down who wouldnt hurt a soul. Shusei is really shown as a caring person here and very forgiving. It brought me to tears to see that Shusei did that.

rubricmarine:
My favorite scene is any time Shichi bathes beca-

But, in all seriousness, my favorite scene from a perspective that isn’t ‘oh my god this is so cute/heartwarming’ or whatever is probably Shichi’s final meeting with Zaisei in book one. I am of the opinion that, even if Zaisei never knew it himself, he never truly intended to kill Shichi unless it turned out what the villagers were saying about him were true. If he was a monster after all, he would simply rid the world of it. But, if the tengu wasn’t a monster, he would see what kind of person they were. After meeting Shichi, Zaisei could see the monk would barely last in the wilderness. So, Zaisei was a second teacher to Shichi, after Sagiri.

Less rambling on the background, though, and on the actual scene. It seems over for Shichi, because Chiyo can’t help and Zaisei could end the monk’s life like the hunter might finish off game. Shichi has had time to learn about the hunter just like the hunter has learned about him, however; he sees that the hunter truly cared for his dog, and never took the ample opportunities to finish off Shichi in a state where he was in a disadvantage. Just like Zaisei knows Shichi isn’t a monster, Shichi knows that Zaisei could not murder in cold blood. They’re both good people.

Tina Black:
I would have to say my favorite scene was from chapter 33 (Rain) when Aki came back from inside from the rain and Shichi was waiting there for her with a towel.  She was already conflicted with the thought that he was in love with a human, only for him to be even more gentle with her during that time.  She was probably the most vulnerable we had seen her, and he was the sweetest we had seen him.  It was a wonderful blend of emotions, and that amazing picture you drew captured it all on top of that.
