This might be disappointing but I really don’t do anything special. I use Google Docs for my story so I can edit it when I’m not at home. Fishbones was just written in Word. I write everything at home, on my computer. No inspiring cafes or parks or anything.
I have heard people like my dialogue so I can explain that! When I’m trying to fall asleep I sometimes just brainstorm and let entire conversations run through my head, then fumble out of my futon to drop it all incoherently into my document so I don’t forget. I then wake up to see some occasionally brilliant, often not as great as I thought it was at the time, writing…
But yes, I do go through voices and scenes in my head rather than just type them out like an essay. Sort of like how artists make the same faces as whatever they’re drawing, I go through the same feels as my characters. It helps!
