Thanks for your questions! In this canon, tengu speak the same language as everyone else. They do have their own idioms and phrases, especially when it comes to eggs/anatomy. Tengu are a distinctly Japanese creation, and I don’t think it would be fair to part them too far from Japanese culture. Also I’m lazy and don’t want to make up a new language.
As for birds, Shichi does talk to a crow in the next part. Well, he talks AT it, since birds can’t understand a tengu any more than they understand a human. I guess I would compare their relationship to our connection with other apes. We’re distant cousins and we share some traits and DNA, but we can’t ‘speak chimp.’
